Hi All,
We encountered an issue with an on-premises data gateway connecting to a VM hosting an on-premises SQL Server.
For context, the solution has been running for almost 10 months without connectivity issues.
The first encountered error was:
We then fixed the issue by updating the data gateway agent to the latest version; the one used was from a year ago.
That fixed that issue, but then it brought a new one:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.),},],''Type=System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception,Message=The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted,Source=,'
We fixed the above by changing the connection to the SQL server to non-encrypted.
The question is, we never ticked the box of encrypted connexion. Is this a known case when updating the gateway? What could have caused the change?
Thanks,
Victor

yes, you will want to consider hard before disabling encryption. Better to update the certificate on the SQL server.
Hi @VictorMed,
Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Community Forum.
Thank you @lbendlin for the helpful response.
Please follow below steps to resolve the error;
1.Make sure the certificate is valid, not expired, and signed by a trusted certificate authority (CA).
2.Install any missing intermediate or root certificates on the gateway machine.
3.Make sure the gateway and SQL Server support SSL/TLS encryption, and the settings align.
4.Test the connection again with encryption enabled after fixing the certificate trust issues.
