So I have a measure, thats taking a running total of the values for this fiscal year, however i need the future dates to be blank.. can anyone see what ive done wrong in my dax or have any advice for what could be wrong? Ive tried adjusting the relationships but to no avail

Can you please try the following
instead of:
_seldate =SELECTEDVALUE(DimDate[Date])
please use
_seldate =MAX(DimDate[Date])
or
_seldate =MIN(DimDate[Date])
I assume that you Date table is on daily base and when you use SELECTEDVALUE as well as filter by month then the result of SELECTEDVALUE will be blank any time since there is more then one value behind a month.

No the dates after today I want to be blank so that "if" statement needs to say IF(_seldate> TODAY(), BLANK(),...
