Variance vs Difference of a measure

Could you please explain to me what's the difference between a Variance measure and difference measure?

The difference calculation is TY - LY 

I've seen a few types of ways to calculate the VAR, but I would to undertsand the meaning of each measure.

@ROG , if you talking about a variable VAR in power bi, that is there to hold a value.

While Variance and difference have different statistical meanings. Usually, in BI tool both are used for difference
