I'm working with a measure that has a different output based on the selected column. When I use a DAX 'FORMAT' method to change the format for each column, the matrix visual begins to include rows with blank data (exactly as if the "Show items with no data" option was selected), ignoring filters.
Manually filtering the rows is not an option.
How can I apply a format without showing previously blank values in the visual?

Never mind. You can freely apply formatting to the individual measures that are being referenced by the variable measure, making sure to maintain data types used in subsequent calculation.
