I have a table with a number field (NUMBER_OF_PARTICPANTS) that is duplicated for each EVENTID ( in this case EventID 86 and 99).

measureName =
VAR _t = SUMMARIZE ( T, T[event_id], T[num_part] )
RETURN
SUMX ( _t, [num_part] )
