Start and enddates disappears

Hi everyone,

I have in my fact table a startdate and an enddate. This table is connected to a data table through the startdate. I know that my fact table contains the following dates on a person:
startdate     enddate
2022-01-17 2022-10-01
2022-10-02 2023-03-14
2023-03-15 2023-07-16

But Power BI seems to merge (some of!) them together and returns
startdate     enddate
2022-01-17 2022-10-01
2023-03-15 2023-07-16

Any ideas as to why it throws the middle dates away? I need the middle dates in order to make a datediff (which sumx at the moment doesn't recognize)

Hi @LasseLJørgensen

The issue you're encountering in Power BI, where certain date ranges in your fact table are being merged or omitted, Here are the possible reasons for this

  1. Filter Context or Data Aggregation:

    • Power BI might be aggregating or filtering data in a way that excludes the middle dates. This can happen due to the interactions between your data model, DAX calculations, and the visualizations you are using. Check your measures, calculated columns, and any visual-level or page-level filters that might be impacting the data.

  2. Time Intelligence Functions:

    • If you are using time intelligence functions in DAX, ensure they are correctly applied. These functions can sometimes lead to unexpected results if the data model or the function logic isn't aligned with the actual data structure.

  3. Date Table Completeness:

    • Ensure your date table covers the entire range of dates present in your fact table. If the date table is missing certain dates, it could lead to gaps in reporting.

The problem occurs in a table regardless of there is being used measures or not. The tables shown above is the same as the visual in power BI. I cannot provide many screenshots as the information is classified.

"But Power BI seems to merge (some of!) them together and returns " - where is this happening? A table visual?

Please explain a bit more about the problem.

Screenshots will be welcome
