SameperiodLastyear on a daily level

Hello,
I am trying to compare the number of cars sold accumulated up to today compared to the same period last year/period.

My problem today is that my measure compares:
Mars day: 1-20 days, with the whole month sameperiodlast year and not the number of days. Do you have any tips? this seems to be super important to my client.

My measure: 

Total sold cars SPLY =

CALCULATE(

    [Total sales cars], -- this measure is a normal count on vehicles that has been sold

    SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR(DimDate[Date])

)
