Problem with STARTOFMONTH and STARTOFQUARTER to get opening balance for Month and Quarter

I'm trying to create a measure to calculate opening month balance  in addition to built-in functions OPENINGBALANCEMONTH AND OPENINGBALANCEQUARTER, using below expression but getting blank row.

 

 

Opening balance for start of month

BalanceSOM = CALCULATE( SUM(Balances[Balance]), STARTOFMONTH( 'Date'[Date] ) )

Opening balance for start of quarter

BalanceSOQ = CALCULATE(SUM(Balances[Balance]),STARTOFQUARTER('Date'[Date]))
