Incorrect KPI Averages When Using Multiple Slicers

I am using Power BI and I face this issue: I have two slicers: one for performance (with values "good," "acceptable," "bad") and another for a date hierarchy. When I select the 3rd quarter from the date slicer, I see the average of the KPIs for the three months in that quarter, which works correctly.

The issue arises when I select "good" performance and then the 3rd quarter. Instead of showing the average of all KPIs for the 3rd quarter, filtered by the months when performance was "good," it only shows the KPIs that were "good" within those three months. This is not giving you the overall average for the quarter considering "good" performance; it only shows the KPIs that meet both criteria simultaneously.

Thanks in advanced!

Hi @MrMogren

Could you please provide more raw data in your tables (exclude sensitive data) with Text format and your expected result with backend logic and special examples? It would be helpful to find out the solution. You can refer the following links to share the required info:

And It is better if you can share a simplified pbix file. You can refer the following link to upload the file to the community. Thank you.

I apologize for not being able to upload the raw data, as it is not in English and contains sensitive information. However, I hope the detailed explanation below helps clarify my issue.

Problem Explanation:

  1. Data Structure:

    • Columns: Date, Performance (values: "good," "acceptable," "bad"), KPI
    • Example Data:
      • July: 10 data points (some "good," some "acceptable," some "bad")
      • August: 10 data points (similar distribution)
      • September: 10 data points (similar distribution)
  2. Current Functionality:

    • When selecting the 3rd quarter in the date slicer, you see the average KPI for all three months in Q3, which works correctly.
  3. Issue:

    • When I filter by "good" performance and then select the 3rd quarter, the visual only shows KPIs that were "good" in each of the three months.
    • This results in an average that doesn't reflect the overall quarterly performance but rather the performance that meets both the "good" criteria and falls within the selected date range simultaneously.
  4. Expected Result:

    • I expect the average KPI for the 3rd quarter filtered by the "good" performance. This should consider all KPIs across the three months where the performance was "good."
    • Example: If in Q3, July had KPIs of 75, 80, and 70 marked as "good", the expected average would be (75 + 80 + 70) / 3 = 75.
  5. Current Result:

    • Only shows the average of KPIs that are marked "good" within each of the three months, not the overall average across the quarter.
