Can see the Continuous or Categorical option when using the Format function

Can't see the Continuous or cantegorical Type Option for the X-Axis at the power BI setting when using a column value created using the Format function .

YEAR('DataWarehouse dimDate'[YearStart]) ---- The Type option is available 
FORMAT(( 'DataWarehouse dimDate'[MonthStart] ) ,"mmm\  yy") --- The Type option is not avalable 
I don't want to see all the data point and don't want to scroll over the X-Axis what is the solution to not sroll left or right on the X axis .

@Anonymous , Continuous is only available or works for Date and number. It does not work for Text

 

It can work for yyyymm, not for yyyy \m mm

It can work for yyyymm, not for yyyy \m mm
