I am trying to calculate the average decline rate (% change) through months and years using:
Avg. Liquid (mboepd):=AVERAGEX(oga_data, oga_data[Liquid (mbopd)])
and
Liquid Decline:=
VAR __LiquidPriorMonth = CALCULATE([Avg. Liquid (mboepd)], PARALLELPERIOD('Calendar'[Date], -1, MONTH))
RETURN
DIVIDE([Avg. Liquid (mboepd)] - __LiquidPriorMonth, __LiquidPriorMonth)
The monthly decline calculates as expected but the subtotals are not correct.
Could sombody please explain where I am going wrong?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Keep your existing measures, but use a measure like this in your visual (assume you have a column called YearMonth in your Date table).
NewMeasure = AverageX(Values(Date[YearMonth]), [Liquid Decline])
This should work both for your rows and subtotal.
If this works for you, please mark it as solution. Kudos are appreciated too. Please let me know if not.
Regards,
Pat

Thanks - that works as expected to get % change by month on the rows and an average of the % change for the year in the subtotals.
Could you also tell me if it's possible to keep % change by month on the rows and get a % change for each year for the subtotals?
This looks like a measure totals problem. Very common. See my post about it here: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/DAX-Commands-and-Tips/Dealing-with-Measure-Totals/td-p/63376
