Interactive R custom visuals logic

I'm having a hard time trying to figure this one out.

Do I need to build a custom visual with plotly first and then import this into power BI desktop using 'import from file'?

Or can I just use the 'R script visual' to create the interactive visual? If so, can someone share a working example?
