ERROR: PBI Desktop unable to connect to SQL Server. Type Initializer exception

Post download of latest version, i opened a previous desktop report, brought in another data source from SQL server (2016), and published without any issues.

Then i opened a new PBI desktop window to make a new report, and since then i am getting this error message for all reports when i try to get source data.
