OneLake integration for semantic models - Programmatically

Hi everyone,

We are using Microsoft Fabric / Power BI REST APIs to create semantic models dynamically, and we need to enable OneLake integration programmatically for both existing semantic models and newly created ones.

In the semantic model settings, there are two relevant options:

  • Large semantic model storage format
  • OneLake integration — Automatically write data imported into your semantic model tables to Delta tables in OneLake.

Our goal is to enable the OneLake integration setting automatically as part of our semantic model provisioning process. We have a large number of existing semantic models, and new models are continuously created by our application, so enabling the setting manually through the Power BI/Fabric UI is not a practical solution.

What we have investigated

  • We create semantic models using the Fabric / Power BI REST APIs.
  • We are using C#/.NET and have considered the Microsoft.AnalysisServices NuGet package to connect to semantic models through the XMLA endpoint and inspect or manage their metadata.
  • We have not found a documented REST API endpoint or TOM property that directly enables this setting.

Questions

  • Is there a supported REST API, XMLA/TMSL command, TOM property, or other programmatic method to enable OneLake integration for an individual semantic model?
  • Can this setting be configured during semantic model creation or deployment, for example through the REST API request payload, TMDL, or TOM?
  • If direct configuration is not supported, is there a recommended way to enable it in bulk for existing semantic models and automatically for newly created models?
  • Is there a supported API to check whether OneLake integration is already enabled for a semantic model?

We are looking for a solution suitable for production automation using C#/.NET (or scripting language), rather than UI automation or manually enabling the setting for each model.

Any documentation, working code examples, or clarification from the Microsoft Fabric / Power BI product team would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
