I am on the mist of upgrading the OS where PBRS is installed from 2019 to 2025. Is Power BI Reporting Server complatible with Windwos Server 2025? The documentation that I have found so far states that the latest compatible version is Windows Server 2022Solved1.5KViews0likes1CommentAfter Upgrading to PBIRS 202501, DirectQuery to MSSQL 2019 Fails with "Cannot Connect to the Analysi
After upgrading Power BI Report Server (PBIRS) from version 202201 to 202501, my reports using DirectQuery to connect to an MSSQL 2019 database fail to load data. The error message states: Cannot connect to the Analysis Services server. Verify that the connection string is correct. How can I resolve this issue? #Have already re-saved and republished the reports using the corresponding Power BI Desktop (202501), but the issue persists. #The data source connection test in PBIRS Web Portal succeeds, confirming that the connection information is correct, but the reports still cannot retrieve data. #Checking the logs, found an error: Failed to get CSDL. Has anyone encountered a similar issue, or are there any configuration changes required?"Solved893Views0likes1CommentUpgrading to latest release - missing Upgrade option
Hi, I'm currently trying to upgrade a PBI Report Server (15.0.1108.297, MAY 2022, Enterprise) to the latest release - January 2023 (also tried Sept 2022, however same error as below). When running the installer, i'm welcomed by the expected Microsoft Power BI Report Server (January 2023) version header, however the dialog is only offering Install Power BI Report Server and not the Upgrade Power BI Report Server option as described here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/upgrade . This is not expected right with an existing installation? Seems like it has an issue detecting the current installation, nothing i can remeber from a previous upgrade that i did to May 2022 as far as i remember. My PBI reportserver installation directory is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Report Server with following folder PBIRS, PBIRS.OLD, Shared Tools. How can i upgrade my version? Thanks!2.1KViews0likes8CommentsPBIRS: Could not load folder contents. Something went wrong. Please try again later.
Having just upgraded from PBIRS 2017 to Jan 2023 Build 15.0.1111.115, I find that non-admin users get this error on the Home folder and other folders that contain .rsmobile reports: "Could not load folder contents. Something went wrong. Please try again later." With all due respect, this error is most unhelpful. Server logs suggest an authentication error but through must trial and eventually good fortune I discovered that the error only happens in folders that contain .rsmobile reports. I know that .rsmobile report suport was removed in Sep 2022. (A premature removal since I can't practically pass =username() as a parameter to SQL Server in Direct Queries.) So I knew I would have to delete the .rsmobile reports eventually, but would you believe it, as Admin, I click on the ellipsis on an .rsmobile report and I get this error: "An error has occurred. Something went wrong. Please try again later." Petebro I figured you'd want to be aware of this because I expect more upgraders will encouter it in future. My options appear to be: 1) Downgrade the server: Impossible I believe. 2) Access the ReportServer/ReportServerTempDB databases and remove the reports through there. Wish me luck. 3) Using my PBIRS database backups from the earlier version*, restore them to an RS instance of an earlier version, delete the .rsmobile reports, then upgrade. *And loose my current work on new PBI Mobile reports. If anyone has other ideas, I'm open. PS: This is not simply a Manage Folder > Security issue.Solved3.6KViews0likes2CommentsIn place Upgrade to Sept 2021
Hi, Current, we're on Power BI Report Server October 2020 version, and if we do an in-place upgrade of the server to the September 2021 version, would the old reports built using oct 2020 be still compatible on the upgraded server? In other words, can users still use Oct 2020 PBI Desktop developed reports and deploy to the upgraded server? Thank you in advance. Hello all, I have a small question. I am in PBIRS May 2020 version, is it possible to upgrade in one time to May 2021 version? Or do I have to upgrade in October 2020, then January 2021 then May 2021? Because I have this error that I don't really understand... Setup: Sending usage data: Operation:Upgrade, Outcome:Failure, ExitPoint:FailedCondition, ErrorMessage:The server did not understand the request, or the request was invalid (0x800C000C) Thank in advance for your help, VivienSolved1KViews0likes2CommentsUpdating PBIRS - SQL Server Enterprise with Software Assurance edition
Hi to all, Where I work we are currently using the January 2020 version of PBIRS and we want to upgrade to a newer version. We have the SQL Server Enterprise with Software Assurance edition. I tried to upgrade following the steps described in this link (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/upgrade) using the October 2020 installation file but encountered an error in the process. This might be a stupid question, but when you update from an old version of Report Server to the newest one, do you just run the PowerBIReportServer.exe file from your computer? Does it prompt you for which Server you are wanting to update the version on?Solved1.3KViews0likes5Comments
