Power BI Image URLs from Tenant-Secured SharePoint – Intermittent Rendering Issues
Hi everyone, I’m experiencing ongoing issues with displaying image URLs in Power BI reports and apps, and I’m struggling to identify a reliable solution. Context We store employee/user headshots as image URLs in a user lookup table within the models. These images are used across multiple reports for UI elements such as: Logged-in user icons Employee of the Month visuals Leaderboards and other internal dashboards The images are hosted in a company SharePoint folder maintained by our Marketing team. All employees have view permissions to this SharePoint location (not anonymous access). Issue 1 – Power BI Service / Teams When opening reports in Power BI Service or via Teams, some images load correctly while others appear as broken image links. If I manually open the SharePoint image folder in my browser (authenticating via our tenant) and then refresh the report, the images display correctly. However, this only persists temporarily, typically by the next day the images are broken again. This makes me suspect an authentication, cookie, or caching issue rather than an issue with the URLs themselves. Issue 2 – Digital Signage We also surface these reports via a digital signage solution on screens around multiple offices. In this scenario, none of the SharePoint-hosted images render, they consistently show as broken links. Interestingly, the images display correctly in the digital signage platform’s preview, but fail once pushed to the physical screens. My assumption here is that the signage devices do not have the required authentication context (cookies / tokens) to access tenant-secured SharePoint images. Question Has anyone encountered similar behaviour when using SharePoint-hosted image URLs in Power BI? Is there a known or recommended approach for handling image authentication/caching issues like this? Are there better-practice alternatives for hosting images used in Power BI (especially for digital signage scenarios)? Would a different hosting method (e.g. public blob storage, CDN, base64 encoding, etc.) be more appropriate? Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I’ve struggled to find clear documentation or examples covering this use case. Thanks in advance.
Authentication type oauth2 missing for Report Server Schedule Refresh
Dear all, I would like to know, what is necessary to do on a Report Server side configuration in order to support oauth2 authentication type for (data source) Scheduled refresh. I am able to take PBI Desktop and use OneDrive / SharePoint online list or library like a source, I am able to refresh them manually or upload such a report to Report Server, however I am not able to configure Scheduled refresh for them (for any O365/M365 data source). There is simply no choice in the menu to use e-mail format of the credentials. Just Anonymous, Basic & Windows type credentials and none of this works. I also tried to use Web type connection with no luck, I tried to connect OneDrive folder like a network drive and use web type / excel type connection and again, with no luck. Sharepoint Online Embed - Can't change web part properties
Hello, We have several Power BI reports embedded on Sharepoint Online, and up until this week we have had no issues setting properties in the PowerBI web part. However, since this week we have had a lot of issues changing the properties within the web part. When we are adding a new report, after we paste the link to the report, the web part properties display normally. However, as soon as we try to change any of the properties, the entire properties pane becomes unresponsive and we are unable to change any of the settings. The report itself gets embedded with no issues. I had other colleagues try, and we are all experiencing the same issue. It's impacting both new reports and reports we have previously been able to set up with no issue. We've tried different browsers as well as accessing it outside our corporate environments. We are admins in Sharepoint as well as in the PowerBI workspace. What else is strange, is that it will work for one of us for maybe 1 in 25 tries for one time, and then it will go back to the same behavior. This is only happening with the Power BI web part, we are having no isses with any other web parts. Has anyone experienced something similar? Thanks for your time!
Refresh of Sharepoint Online Odata from power Bi report server
Hello, I was able to create a report in power bi desktop which connect to a Sharpeoint online site using Odata. To do so I had to use Organizational account as the Windows authentication was not working. Now when I publish the report on the report server and shedule a refresh I'm facing the error: The credentials provided for the OData source are invalid. So I want to edit the data source connection which is Odata. Problem is that the option are very limited and using Windows authentication fail "Log on failed. Ensure the user name and password are correct." You can't set up the the report server to use Organizational account. How to plan a refresh from the report server using Odata from a sharepoint online site ?
