I am working on a report to monitor certain things on the Power BI report Server. I was wondering what items others may be monitoring on reports. I am willing to share what I have done so far. Listed below are the items I am currently monitoring: A. Whether the scheduled data refreshes failed or succeeded. a. Would love to be able to get the failure message. B. What is the average response time of a query. a. Is there a way to determine when the report is first opened. I would like to calculate initial load time. C. What was the longest response time of a query per day. D. How many times a query took longer than 5 seconds.9.4KViews0likes3CommentsHow to add the Last Date Time refresh with two simple DAX functions
Hi all - I have figured out a way to add the automatic Last Date-Time Refresh to local timezone with two simple and straight-forward DAX functions that I'd like to share with you. If you have tried to set-up the local time on desktop version but the dashboard always reflects the GTW time whenever auto-refresh occured, it's because the Last Date-Time refers to the last refresh of Power BI server based on GTW. You can follow step by step below and it will work flawlessly no matter which local timezone you are. Create a custom column as UTC time.I use a Brand logo table to create a custom column since the data table is very small. If you pull data from direct source, you should create a new table and custom column by New Source/Blank Query. Why UTC? Because there is no time difference between GWT and UTC. However, GWT is a timezone while UTC is a timestandard. Click here for more details. DAX= Table.AddColumn(#"Renamed Columns", "Last Refresh Date Time", each DateTimeZone.FixedUtcNow(), type datetimezone) Add one more custom column by DAX switch zone function: I switch from UTC timezone to my local PST timezone by -7 hours. If your local time is different more than PST, you can adjust -/+ hours based on the difference time between UTC and your local timezone. You also add more other timezone by repeating this step 2. DAX= Table.AddColumn(#"Added Custom", "PST", each DateTimeZone.SwitchZone([Last Refresh Date Time], -7), type datetimezone) Use the PST column for the Last Refresh DateTime. This will work on the app as well.8KViews8likes2CommentsPower BI Report Server - Refresh data on embedded report
Hi - Below, we have figured out the javascript code that can be pasted into the console to get a PowerBI Report Server report to refresh the data only (i.e. clicking the refresh button) on a timer. We can get this to work whether you are on the regular screen of the report server report or with it in the embed view, but not when it is actually embedded. The use case would be to provide "real-time" data using report server so that these reports could be kept open, refreshed, and the dropdown choices stay as the user selected. Does anyone know how to get this code below to work when embedding a report on a website on an internal network? Thank you! function refreshPowerBI() { this.frames[0].postMessage({kind:"powerbi.reportServerHost.IToolbarActionMessage",button:"refresh"},"https://[our report server]:443") } if(window.autoRefreshInterval) { clearInterval(window.autoRefreshInterval); }; window.autoRefreshInterval = setInterval(refreshPowerBI, 60*1000)6.4KViews0likes10CommentsIs a Manual refresh of a report on power bi report server possible ?
Hi We are about to go live with an on premise power bi report server - i.e. on our network When a user goes to the web portal - and browses to a folder containing reports - like https://servername.domain.local/ReportsPBI/powerbi/folder1 then they see the report etc. At the top - their are some options - File, View, Edit in Power Bi Desktop, Explore Refresh. What does the refresh buton actually do ? i.e. will hitting the Refresh option do a manual refresh of the data in the report? If not is there a way for the end user to force a refresh of the data in the report (from their web browser?) Hello! Roughly nine or so months ago, upgraded from using an older SSRS system to using Power BI Report Server. currently use PBIRS for on-premis data reporting. We have several pagenated reports with subscriptions that we used thorughout the years and are now beginning to make use of Power BI reports as well. Many of my reports connect to either SQL or Oracle databases and run stored procedures to get the data. I have figured out how to get Data Refresh working for my reports and it works very well. However, soon after I learned how to build Power BI reports and set up auto refresh, our subscriptions stopped sending out one day. The SSRS database would claim the subscriptions have been sent but the emails never were actually sent out. I restarted the Power BI service on our vm server and the subscriptions automatically started running again. Upon much investigation and monitoring using Performance Monitor on our server, I noticed that after each scheduled refresh of my power bi reports that several Microsoft.Mashup.Container.NetFX40 processes would start running. Then after these processes are complete, the page file would settle down with usage slightly higher than previously. This process repeats itself many times and after about 3 days or so, the page file would be completely full and I would have to restart the Power BI Report Server service. This would release the pagefile memory until it would get used up again. I came accross this issue where someone had a similar problem. The fix is to restrict data preview from downloading data in the background of each Power BI Report. I have attempted to integrate this fix but it does not reslove my issue. I am a bit at a loss of what to do. Any extra insight would be greatly appreciated!2.3KViews0likes3CommentsSharePoint Refresh - Failure

For example - If I press refresh button twice, Since it was not showing me Refresh in Progress when I clicked on it first, after an hour or two, It shows 2 Refresh has been Completed.
