Ginger Grant joins us for this session and she will help you learn about: Providing an environment where business users are able to develop their own reports is a goal of many companies. Providing this environment in Power BI takes more than just pointing users to a data model, as the data environment needs to provide an environment where users can utilize design standards, understand which measures to use so that they will be able to do their own analysis. We will look at all of the steps needed to create detailed themes, templates, and supportive model designs. In dimensional modeling, dimensions are often a tangible thing: the date, the time, the customer, the employee, the location, the product. It's something you can see and point to; even have a conversation with. But what happens when your dimension isn't a tangible thing? When it's just a collection of random pieces of information? How do you model things that aren't things? This is where you enter the murky world of junk and degenerate dimensions. Let's talk about why junk might be exactly what your model needs. Creating a custom visual for Power BI is a need that can be addressed with different approaches. One of the easiest ways to create custom visuals is using a No code platform named Charticulator. Building custom visuals in Power BI gives you total control over your scenario and results can be very rewarding. However, there's a high learning curve, particularly if you are not familiar with web development tools and technologies. If you already have experience with R and/or Python, Power BI offers visuals with an interface for you to write code in these languages, and these options can help a lot with producing tailor-made designs. Vega-Lite is a "visualization grammar" developed by the University of Washington Interactive Data Lab. It uses a declarative, JSON-based language that allows authors to build a range of bespoke visual designs with significantly less effort than coding from scratch. In this session, Daniel will introduce you to the Vega-Lite language via Deneb - a custom visual for Power BI. We will create some example visuals, as well as demonstrate some of the additional integration features with Power BI that aren't currently possible when using R & Python.
