[Bug] Power BI Report Server 15.0.1122.94 – Web Portal (/Reports) returns HTTP 503 after upgrade
[Bug] Power BI Report Server 15.0.1122.94 – Web Portal (/Reports) returns HTTP 503 after upgrade; root cause: managed assemblies are delay-signed Hi, Environment OS: Windows Server 2022 Catalog database: local SQL Server named instance (SQL 2022 family) Version before upgrade: 15.0.1121.x (Aug / May 2026) Version after upgrade: Power BI Report Server 1.27.9767.40555 (Build 15.0.1122.94), released 2026-09-29 URLs: http://<internal-ip>:<port>/ReportServer and /Reports Symptom After upgrading, /ReportServer (the folder/file view and SOAP endpoint) opens normally, but /Reports (the web portal) always returns "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable." Restarting the service and running a same-version Repair both had no effect. Investigation The RSHostingService parent process is alive, but its child processes RSPortal.exe / RSManagement crash ~1 second after startup and are restarted in a loop (crash loop), so there is no live process serving the portal → 503. ReportingServicesService.exe stays alive, which is why /ReportServer works. The RSManagement log repeatedly shows:Failed to load file or assembly "Microsoft.ReportingServices.CatalogAccessInterfaces, …, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91" … strong-name validation failed (HRESULT: 0x8013141A = CORSEC_E_STRONG_NAME_VALIDATION_FAILED) Ruled out a CLR profiler / APM hook: no COR_* / CORECLR_* environment variables are set, and no Dynatrace / AppDynamics / New Relic / Datadog agent service or process is present. Running sn.exe -v on the installed DLL confirms:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Report Server\PBIRS\…\Microsoft.ReportingServices.CatalogAccessInterfaces.dll is a delay-signed or test-signed assembly The DLL's AssemblyVersion=0.0.0.0, its PublicKeyToken is still Microsoft's 89845dcd8080cc91, but it is missing the final strong-name private-key signature. Key evidence: the installer PowerBIReportServer.exe carries a valid Authenticode signature — Status = Valid, Signer = Microsoft Corporation. This proves the installer is a genuine Microsoft release; however, its internal managed assemblies were not given a final strong-name signature. This is a defect in the 15.0.1122.94 release pipeline (the final strong-name signing step was skipped), not a corrupt download or a local environment issue. Root Cause The RS managed assemblies shipped in 15.0.1122.94 (released 2026-09-29) are delay-signed. The CLR fails strong-name verification when loading them, causing RSManagement / RSPortal to crash and /Reports to become unavailable. Repair re-extracts the same delay-signed files, so it does not help. Temporary Workaround (verified to restore the portal) Run as administrator: (Skips strong-name verification for that public key token. Token 89845dcd8080cc91 is RS-specific and only affects RS assemblies. After Microsoft ships a fixed build, remove the skip with sn -Vu *,89845dcd8080cc91.) After this, the portal opens normally and functions correctly (the assemblies are genuinely Microsoft code, just missing the final signature). Fix Recommendation / To Microsoft Please re-release 15.0.1122.94 (or a higher build) with correctly strong-name-signed assemblies. Until an official fixed build is available, affected users can only: ① use the sn -Vr bypass above; or ② roll back to the properly signed 15.0.1121.120 (Aug 2026) — but note the catalog database schema was upgraded by 1122.94, so a rollback also requires restoring the pre-upgrade catalog DB backup and the encryption key. Thanks, looking forward to an official acknowledgment and fix. Supplement (for reproduction) Affected component paths (examples): <PBIRS install>\PBIRS\{ASEngine,Management,Office,Portal,PowerBI}\Microsoft.ReportingServices.CatalogAccessInterfaces.dll (all 32768 bytes, AssemblyVersion=0.0.0.0) sn.exe path example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v10.0A\bin\NETFX 4.8 Tools\sn.exe Verify installer signature: Get-AuthenticodeSignature <path>\PowerBIReportServer.exe (should return Status: Valid, subject Microsoft Corporation)
Power BI report server configuration error
I have recently installed a Power BI report server, While I am configuring Database in Report server Configuration Manager I get the following error: Microsoft.ReportingServices.WmiProvider.WMIProviderException: An error occurred when attempting to connect to the report server remote procedure call (RPC) end point. Verify that the Report Server Windows service is running, and then retry the operation. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: The RPC server is not listening. Any help in fixing this issue is appreciated. Thanks
Restrict access data in Power BI Report Server with Microsoft Access database
Hello, I want to segregate data in Power BI report server. The database is an Access database. "User 1 can only view the Perimeter" , "User 2 can only view the Perimeter 2". I have seen some solutions in internet : - Row Level Security in cloud (report services) - Using username() in MS SQL Server but it doesn't work for Microsoft Access database in Power BI report server. Can you help me please ? Thanks in advance
Can't upload report to report server on Microsoft Windows Server 2012- This is a unique problem
I installed The latest version(March 2018) of Power BI Report Server(Evaluation) on my Production Server(2012 R2- Standard) and installed the Power BI Desktop optimized for Power Bi Report Server - March 2018 on my pc(Windows 10). When I attempt to upload a report to the server(2012 R2- Standard), I get this error "There was an error uploading your .pbix file. Verify that this file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file." There is no problem with the file since I am able to upload it to a local report server on my PC (Windows 10). This error only occurs while I am attempting to upload to the Power BI Report Server on my server(2012 R2- Standard). Any help? As suggested by another user on this forum, I have changed the service account in the report server configuration manager from virtual service account to network service but the problem persist.
An error occurred while attempting to save the report to Power BI Report Server
We installed Power BI Report Server (Octobet 2017) from Enterprise license with SA (we have an EA). The existing report server was SQL Server 2014 Enterprise with many rdl files loaded. The Report Server was upgraded first while SQL Server 2014 Enterprise database engine was not upgraded. The reports ran fine but we never tested Power BI Reports. After upgrading the database engine, SSAS and SSIS to 2017 Enterprise, the first Power BI report we tried to save got the following error: An error occurred while attempting to save the report to Power BI Report Server. (close and cancel buttons) The report is saved on the portal and can run on the portal if the data was imported. If a new Power BI report has a live connection to SSAS, no data is displayed. The service is being run by an AD account that has local admin on the server. No virtual account or NETWORK SERVICE account is being used. here are some log file: RSManagement_yyy_mm_dd_hh_dd_ss.log 2018-03-20 08:53:39.1643|ERROR|13|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_6c234c92-31b5-4a81-a174-f721f2905a42 2018-03-20 08:53:49.2080|ERROR|6|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_f0e96508-f53f-4a92-a2cd-fe9a88a56b8d 2018-03-20 08:53:59.2547|ERROR|18|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_88d77243-0a06-4d9d-beda-687130cbb993 2018-03-20 08:54:09.2984|ERROR|5|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_0ac936da-c7f8-4774-90a9-e13cd107aed6 2018-03-20 08:54:19.3501|ERROR|6|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_c0a71b9f-b928-4f61-ae42-7d8eb1921838 2018-03-20 08:54:29.3948|ERROR|7|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_93b7f9ca-75ee-4b9e-b2cf-a347a425cd3c 2018-03-20 08:54:39.4436|ERROR|5|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_aa56adff-bb1f-40fe-9649-8b3c733ea6a4 2018-03-20 08:54:49.4863|ERROR|14|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_163ac7d8-d7bd-426b-b166-201805170293 2018-03-20 08:54:59.5350|ERROR|7|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_03b24338-6c33-4ffc-b328-28fef2f304cf 2018-03-20 08:55:09.5797|ERROR|13|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_deb6afa8-b16f-4a13-9f8f-d264b85140aa 2018-03-20 08:55:19.6254|ERROR|7|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_798b82c8-aaa9-4a57-8bcf-27a7ed030a2d 2018-03-20 08:55:29.6691|ERROR|5|One or more errors occurred.| RequestID = s_f506acd5-7217-487f-9337-b7657653a933 RSPowerBI_yyy_mm_dd_hh_mm_ss.log 2018-03-20 08:05:14.1186|INFO|4|Started clean up of embedded models 2018-03-20 08:05:14.1186|INFO|4|Finished clean up of 0 embedded models 2018-03-20 08:20:14.1322|INFO|4|Started clean up of embedded models 2018-03-20 08:20:14.1322|INFO|4|Finished clean up of 0 embedded models 2018-03-20 08:35:14.1457|INFO|17|Started clean up of embedded models 2018-03-20 08:35:14.1457|INFO|17|Finished clean up of 0 embedded models 2018-03-20 08:47:34.8125|INFO|12|Received request POST /api/reportpropertiesfromlocalfiles| RequestID = s_b7223224-7dbd-4760-8241-ad5a3730da53 2018-03-20 08:47:34.8125|INFO|12|CFG : EnableCustomVisuals = [True] (env) 2018-03-20 08:47:38.1647|INFO|14|Sending response.
