78 TopicsCant connect the datasource SQL Server Database in the report server
Hello Community, I created a report in the power bi desktop version and now wanted to upload the report on the report server which all worked out(once i had saved the file as a report server). I however can't seem to connect to the SQL server database as my one and only data source and can therefore not set up an automatic refresh of the report. Just some back info the report is based on an Import mods and I first created the report on the desktop version before saving the document as power bi desktop report sever document. I think the problem might be with the fact that I didn't originally create the report in the report server version of desktop and/or that there is something wrong with my connecting string(was automatically filled in and I cant edit it). On the desktop version I can refresh the data without any problem as I am connected to the SQL database but it simply doesn't work with the report server.I've attached pictures showing my error sign to give more context. I also tried the two authentication methods possible (standard authentication and Microsoft authentication and both didn't work) I would be very grateful for any assistance the community could give me,as I need to present this tomorrow to my bosses and cant find a solution. Kind regards, Philip Sinyan3.3KViews0likes8CommentsNew Scheduled Refresh Plan (An error has occurred. Something went wrong. Please try again later.)

Hi All, I have recently downloaded report builder and have connected it to my PowerBI Data. I need to generate a report for each company ID, as shown below: I did this by changing the visibility to the expression =IIf(Fields!CODE.Value = "COMPANY3", false, true) This part is fine because I just want to hide the code but show the data for the rest of the companies. My question is: Is there an easy way to generate this table for company 1 without having to manually change this expression every time? If I want the same report for company 1, is it possible to have a selection tool where I select company 1 and then get the same table but only where company 1's name shows. Hi All, I got a question about a Gateway Install. So I created a dashboard in Power BI that has a live connection to a database we are using. Tomorrow one of my sales colleagues will present the dashboard somewhere. When I published the dashboard I got a notification that I need to install a gateway. So my question is as follows: If I install a gateway on the virtual machine (where the database + pbix files are), am I then able to publish it and are there other steps I need to take to make this work? Thanks in advanceSolved3.5KViews0likes2CommentsHELP! Microsoft Mashups are eating my memory
Ever since I updated to the new Report Server, my PBI server is getting killed by Mashups. It looks like they are not being released after use and just keep building up until I start to loose functionality. Paginated reports start getting 403 errors. Eventually I stop and restart the Report server and that buys me another few hours. 8 processor and 24G memory. Used to be 12G and that was just fine.3.6KViews0likes10CommentsFiltering reports by URL with special characters
Hey everyone, I am trying to filter a report using some parameters in the URL. My table and column have some special characters and I am following the guide here for those: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-url-filters#special-characters-in-url-filters However, it doesn't seem to be accepting the unicodes I am placing, so I was wondering if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong??? I am going crazy haha. Here is what I've got without unicodes ?filter=[NEW] Topics/Level 2 ID eq 1219 --> table name is: [NEW] Topics & column name is: Level 2 ID & I want to filter by: 1219 Following the guide from Microsoft I've translated this into the following, but it doesn't work.... 😞 ?filter=x005B_NEW_x005D_x00x20_Topics/Level_x00x20_2_x00x20_ID eq 1219 Do I have too many special characters?Solved683Views0likes1CommentGenerate scheduled Power BI reports to FTP or SharePoint
Greetings, I see where you can use Subscribe to schedule reports to be emailed to users. Is there a way to schedule reports to be generated daily, monthly etc and then be sent to a file server or SharePoint location from Power BI so that they are stored there? Thanks1.3KViews2likes2CommentsMigrating report from SSAS Cube to azure synapse
I'm fairly new to cloud as well as to the power BI. Was trying to understand which steps do i need to make in order to migrate reports from SSAS cube (all data for the reports is on-prem) to azure synapse. My guess is that my company wants me to do it though dedicated pipelines. Does it mean that after I send it from dev to test environment though the pipeline I need to change my source connection to azure one? Thank you in advanceSolved2.6KViews0likes1CommentBest Option for Power BI Data Repository
The current Finance role that I am in involves standardizing reports for a wide audience to use. I have developed multiple Power BI reports that others are using, and I want to have a data repository for all current and future Power BI reports. The current location of my data is on my personal computer, but I want the data to be available for other analysts to grab when they want to develop their own Power BI reports/analysis. Unfortunately, I cannot connect directly to SAP HANA (IT will now allow it) but instead have to query the data out of SAP HANA using Analysis for Microsoft Excel and connect to flat files/workbooks that hold the data. I am currently trying to decide on the best location to house the data for the Power BI reports, and I am currently looking into using SharePoint, SQL database, a shared server, or Azure. I think Azure is the least likely option due to cost and the required involvement of IT, but I still want to include it as an option, nonetheless. Is there someone that can give the pros and cons of each (to use as a data repository) for the organization’s Power BI reports? I have never used SQL or Azure as a data connection in Power BI, so any information would be helpful. It is just me that will be maintaining this data repository, so I am trying to keep it simple but efficient. Ideally, I would not be adding a week’s working hours as a database administrator on top of my current role. Below are what I have so far as my options: SharePoint- This is the option I am leaning towards mostly as of now. Pros -It would not require an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. -Can use a macro to refresh the queries held in each excel workbook that would be held on SharePoint and then refresh the reports in Power BI Service -The team I work for manages the SharePoint site for the organization -It would not require additional cost unless we start to get close to the storage capacity of our SP site Cons -Takes a long time to bring data into Power BI Desktop and slower refresh connecting to an online data source -Can potentially be a lot of excel workbooks and folders SQL database Pros -Can use Select statements within Power BI reports to gather only the data I would need instead of pulling in an entire dataset (Not a huge benefit I think but a benefit, regardless) -Additional capabilities in Power BI because of connection to database? (Direct Query?) -Can create relationships between datasets (Not sure if I would use/need this feature) Cons -Would have to use an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. Would maybe require a virtual machine to run scheduled refreshes. -Would require the skill and time to manage the database Shared Server Pros -Would be faster than using SharePoint (Online data repository) Cons -Would have to use an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. Would maybe require a virtual machine to run scheduled refreshes. Azure- Do not know too much about this option. Pros -Can handle a lot of data (More than a SQL db I believe) -Additional capabilities with Power BI? -Would I need an on-premises data connection in Power BI Service for this, since the data is housed in the cloud? Cons -Most complex solution -Costly -Would most likely require assistance of ITSolved13KViews0likes13CommentsReport renders very slow
Hello, The PBI report takes >30sec to render, this is too slow (using Edge, Chrome is the same slow). Posting the problem in this section as we have on-prem Report Server. After 4-6 sessions with Microsoft, with them obtaining various run logs from us, we are informed unless we have a break to fix problem, Microsoft support cannot help us 😞 The PBI report has the following visuals and Data Connect Mode is Import (about 200 data rows - few seconds to refresh daily ). 1) 1 Bing Map of North America 2) 1 Area chart 3) 4 Slicers and 1 Text Filter 4) 9 Images 5) 18 Advanced Cards (We have the latest May2021 Report Server) The Model in the report is a star-schema. Performance analyzer showed the max DAX query is only 43ms, Visual display and Other are high ones. Current PBI Server is a 4core CPU and max CPU peaked at 58% only (PBI Server, DB and Web all in the same VM). Microsoft said adding CPU would not make a difference. I am trying to trace with the DevTool (F12) in Edge, the 'reportServerHost.js' took 15sec and many processes have long stalled/waiting states. Don't understand what it all means, thinking maybe this can help explain the slow report render. I am hoping the PBI community can help explain or have suggestions on how the report could be improved for render performance. Thank you. Btw, I did another test with a report that just displays 'Hello' (no DB). It took 8sec to load in the browser.1.4KViews0likes2Comments
