Best Option for Power BI Data Repository
The current Finance role that I am in involves standardizing reports for a wide audience to use. I have developed multiple Power BI reports that others are using, and I want to have a data repository for all current and future Power BI reports. The current location of my data is on my personal computer, but I want the data to be available for other analysts to grab when they want to develop their own Power BI reports/analysis. Unfortunately, I cannot connect directly to SAP HANA (IT will now allow it) but instead have to query the data out of SAP HANA using Analysis for Microsoft Excel and connect to flat files/workbooks that hold the data. I am currently trying to decide on the best location to house the data for the Power BI reports, and I am currently looking into using SharePoint, SQL database, a shared server, or Azure. I think Azure is the least likely option due to cost and the required involvement of IT, but I still want to include it as an option, nonetheless. Is there someone that can give the pros and cons of each (to use as a data repository) for the organization’s Power BI reports? I have never used SQL or Azure as a data connection in Power BI, so any information would be helpful. It is just me that will be maintaining this data repository, so I am trying to keep it simple but efficient. Ideally, I would not be adding a week’s working hours as a database administrator on top of my current role. Below are what I have so far as my options: SharePoint- This is the option I am leaning towards mostly as of now. Pros -It would not require an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. -Can use a macro to refresh the queries held in each excel workbook that would be held on SharePoint and then refresh the reports in Power BI Service -The team I work for manages the SharePoint site for the organization -It would not require additional cost unless we start to get close to the storage capacity of our SP site Cons -Takes a long time to bring data into Power BI Desktop and slower refresh connecting to an online data source -Can potentially be a lot of excel workbooks and folders SQL database Pros -Can use Select statements within Power BI reports to gather only the data I would need instead of pulling in an entire dataset (Not a huge benefit I think but a benefit, regardless) -Additional capabilities in Power BI because of connection to database? (Direct Query?) -Can create relationships between datasets (Not sure if I would use/need this feature) Cons -Would have to use an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. Would maybe require a virtual machine to run scheduled refreshes. -Would require the skill and time to manage the database Shared Server Pros -Would be faster than using SharePoint (Online data repository) Cons -Would have to use an on-premises data connection for Power BI Service. Would maybe require a virtual machine to run scheduled refreshes. Azure- Do not know too much about this option. Pros -Can handle a lot of data (More than a SQL db I believe) -Additional capabilities with Power BI? -Would I need an on-premises data connection in Power BI Service for this, since the data is housed in the cloud? Cons -Most complex solution -Costly -Would most likely require assistance of IT

List all Data Sources in all published PBIX files
Hi folks, I'm looking for a way to list all data sources used in all Power BI reports on the Report Server. So far I have not been successful, and I've even looked at the report server tables. Has anyone done this or have ideas? Looking for a native solution, not 3rd party tools, and I would prefer to not have to implement yet another process just to capture this information. Thanks, Shane

Test Connection Broken
Hi, I've been setting up Kerberos authentication and changing the service account running PBIRS. Now when I click "Test Connection", from the Data Sources screen of report managment, it fails every time, even though the credentials are correct and the report is actually able to connect just fine. We only use either direct query (to SQL Server) or analysis services as our data sources... For direct query, I just get a popup saying something's broken, and looking under the hood the HTTP request that is sent (when the Test Connection button is pressed) returns a HTTP 500. For Analysis services, I get the error message "Data source AnalysisServices is not supported.". Please can someone help? Thanks

Unable to connect to web data source
We have developed a report using Power BI Desktop for Report Server (May 2021). We have developed a report that has 5 data sources. 2 of them are web sources. The report connects to all data sources when it is open in Power BI Desktop. We uploaded the report to Power BI Report Server (May 2021). We then set up the data sources and the 2 web sources fail. Here are the details: Data Source 1: Type: Web Credentials: Anonymous When clicking "Test Connection" it fails with this message: Couldn't connect The report server couldn't connect to the data source using the information you entered. Make sure you've entered the connection string and any credentials correctly. Hide error details Web.Contents failed to get contents from 'https://XXXXXXX.XXX.XXXXXXX.XX/XXX' (400): Bad Request Data Source 4: Type: Web Credentials: Anonymous When clicking "Test Connection" it fails with this message: Couldn't connect The report server couldn't connect to the data source using the information you entered. Make sure you've entered the connection string and any credentials correctly. Hide error details Web.Contents failed to get contents from 'https://XXXXXXX.XXX.XXXXXXX.XX/XXX/XXX/XXX/XXXXXXX/XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX/XXX' (405): Method Not Allowed How does authentication work when the credential is set to anonymous? How would Power BI Report Server connect to the data source? What account would it use? Would we have to check if this is a firewall or network security issue? Any help on resolving this would be appreciated.

Can't add Windows Authentication to Data Sources.
I have PBIRS on premises and no matter what I do I can't seem to get the data sources to work to allow for Windows Authentication. I get a red circle with a line though it when trying to make changes to the data share. I'll add a data source (excel file to keep it simple) to a local share or on a share on another server, create the report in PBI, then upload it to RS but always receive the same error. "Scheduled data refresh is unavailable for files not mapped to a network drive path." Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Data Source Created. How to use with Paginated Report
So, I have successfully created a Data Source in Power BI Report Server. I'd like to use that when authoring a Paginated Report BUT, that option isn't available in the list of available Data Sources from Paginated Report or, so it seems. What am I missing? thanx in advance, Joe

request time out when entering Oracle data source credentials
Setting up new Power BI server When I enter my credentials on the data source for a report I'm getting the error: "Couldn't connect The report server couldn't connect to the data source using the information you entered. Make sure you've entered the connection string and any credentials correctly. Connection request timed out" It works fine in desktop with the same credentials. I did install the 64 bit Oracle data connectors on the server but don't know how to test if it was successful. Also updated tnsnames file with the version we use for everything else. Connection string is the standard: data source=instance_name;persist security info=True

Is there any way to use report server shared data sources in power bi reports? Also, each time I publish my power bi report to the power bi report server, I have to re-enter credentials in the data source. Is there any workaround for this?
