service refresh issues with multiple sources

Hi all,

Need a little help here.

As of this week numerous reports that have been running like a charm suddenly diceded that they don't feel like refreshing anymore. Great...😐.

The problem seems to be related to cloud sources.

  • The reports include local tables (report created on a server, published, on prem gateway is up and actual, connections are fine in the center).
  • Some cloud sources (SPO, data flows) got the message that they cant be refreshed over a gateway. something new for me as these ran fine for quite some time (1yr >).

What i'm running into now is the following:

This is related to a table refreshed via dataflow, here are the refresh settings, i believe this is the one:

But i can't for the life of me figure out why i'm getting this error. Also the error goes on about some premium aswel error. We don't have premium and don't use premium features either (not even via PPU or trial).

obviously already tried all combinations here as well as deleting and revreating the connections and repubishing the report.

Any help is appreciated!

Cheers.

Paul.

Hi @PaulusD,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

This issue typically occurs due to an improper configuration or recent changes in the Power BI environment that enforce stricter refresh policies for cloud sources.

The error indicates that the cloud data source setting is not allowed to refresh through a gateway.

Cloud data sources like SharePoint Online, Power BI Dataflows, or Azure SQL Database do not require gateways. They leverage cloud connectors to support refresh and scheduled refresh directly in the Power BI service without the need for an on-premises data gateway.

If your data source is cloud-based, please remove the gateways.

To resolve this issue, ensure that the dataset is not associated with any gateway in the Power BI Service settings. Update the credentials for the data source using OAuth2 or another supported authentication method, and verify that the refresh configuration relies on direct cloud connectivity rather than a gateway.

Please le me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi @v-vpabbu

Your post wasn't the complete solution but it helped me a long way :).

There is a check box at the bottom of the connections that needed to be checked. I also deleted the duplicate connections (ones that were still there and alerady had a new cloud connectins).  That last part is what you suggested.

Two days of frustration finally over ! 😁
