Hi @aswathiii,

Thank you for reaching out to the community! I appreciate the valuable insights shared by @rohit1991 and @ibarrau they’ve provided great explanations regarding why the background turns white when exporting to PDF and the limitations of certain visuals.

Additional considerations:

  • If specific visuals are turning white, check their background transparency settings: Select the visual → Format Pane → Effects → Background → Set transparency to 0%.
  • If you’re facing blurry or inconsistent rendering, consider increasing the report resolution before exporting: Go to File > Options and Settings > Options > Report Settings and ensure high-resolution rendering is enabled.
  • Some Power BI themes may not fully translate when exporting to PDF. Try switching to a default theme and see if the issue persists.
  • Ensure that your report is optimized for high-quality rendering by setting appropriate Page View and Canvas Size before exporting.
  • Occasionally, exporting behaviour might vary across different browsers. Testing in Edge, Chrome, or Firefox could help identify any inconsistencies.
  • Power BI Service updates can sometimes impact export functionality. Ensure your Power BI version is up to date

If this helps, then please Accept it as a solution and dropping a "Kudos" so other members can find it more easily.

Thank you.

hi @aswathiii ,

Why This Happens?

Well, Power BI does not export transparency in PDFs. Custom backgrounds (images or colors) may not render correctly. Or, Some themes don't apply to PDF exports.

Solutions:

  1. Set a Solid Background Color

    • Go to View > Page Background → Choose a solid (non-transparent) color.
  2. Use a Background Image

    • Add a full-page image with the desired color.
    • Set Transparency = 0% in Page Formatting.
  3. Export Using Print Option

    • Instead of Export to PDF, use Print > Save as PDF.

Hi. Does that happen with all visuals? I'm asking because not all of them are allowed.

The following aren't supported for Export to PDF. Either the PDF export option is grayed out or isn't listed at all on the Export dropdown. In some cases, such as for R visuals, the report exports but the visual renders as a gray box with an error message.

There is more info in this docs: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/end-user-pdf?tabs=powerbi-service

I hope that helps,
