Why does it say a gateway is needed to use Azure SQL database?
Why is a gateway needed to use Azure SQL? - Never used Power BI before, so signed up for a trial - Brand new laptop, I install Power BI Desktop on it - I open it and pick Get Data - I pick Azu...

If you have Pro account you could try to open a support ticket. If you have a Pro account it is free. Go to https://support.powerbi.com. Scroll down and click "CREATE SUPPORT TICKET".
Huh, just checked one of my recent datasets. I am seeing the same thing. Azure SQL database, wants to use a gateway. I'm going to check a few things.
