I only use cloud and web data sources in the report. If I publish the report to the PBI Service, I am required to connect the gateway.
I don't need a gateway. Other reports work without problems. I use the same data sources in them.
I need to set up automatic update. Without a gateway, PBI Service won't let me do that.
Can you help me?
Hi @caledonia I have seen this before with other users and I agree you don't requrie a gateway for a Cloud source.
Firstly, see if you can untoggle the On for the Use an On-premises or VNet data gateway. Although it does look greyed out.
Next, expand Data source credentials. Make sure none of teh sources has an error message. If it does, update the credentials.
If that doesn't sort the issue, create a Cloud connection for the source. This will also allow you to share the connection for other users to use. When done, click Apply
Hi @Wikkleyn_81
Thank for your help. Unfortunately the problem persists.
1) I can't untoggle the On for the Use an On-premises or VNet data gateway.
2) Data source credentials are grayed out. I can't click on them.
3) I created Cloud connection for sources, but i can't click on Apply.
Hi,@caledonia
Regarding the issue you raised, my solution is as follows:
1.First of all, you can check whether your cloud data is in a private network, if the cloud data is in a private network, a gateway is required.

2.Second, you can check that you are linking to a web data source using a web connector script that is using Web.Page functions, and that you have updated the semantic model or report after November 18, 2016, you must use a gateway for the refresh to work.

3.Finally, your storage method requires a gateway whenever it involves direct queries and connection implementation.

Hi, @Anonymous
PBIS is asking for a gateway for the original dataset, which has been uploaded to PBIS for a long time. I republished the modified version from Power BI Desktop, and now it is asking for a gateway. I tried publishing the same dataset under a different name, and the gateway is not required. I don’t understand what the issue is with the original dataset. Everything should be set up the same since it’s the same dataset.
