Usage Metrics Report shows No usage data / All zeros

Hello Community,

I am encountering an issue where the Usage Metrics Report in Power BI Service (web version) displays **all metrics as 0 (no usage data)** for my report, even though the dataset has been successfully refreshed.

### Issue Details:
- All key metrics (Report opens, Report page views, Unique viewers, Report open trend) show 0 values
- The dataset last refresh timestamp is normal, but no usage data is populated
- I have confirmed that users have accessed the report during the selected date range

### Questions & Checks I've Performed:
1. I would like to confirm if this issue is caused by **insufficient account permissions** (I hold Admin access to the workspace)
2. I have verified that the tenant admin has enabled the Usage Metrics feature in the admin portal
3. I have manually refreshed the usage metrics dataset and waited for 24+ hours, but the issue persists
4. I am also checking if this is related to a recent Power BI update/UI change that may have affected the usage metrics functionality

### Screenshot Attached:
I have attached a screenshot of the empty Usage Metrics Report for reference.

Could anyone please help me troubleshoot this issue? Thank you in advance for your support.

  • Hi jeanne,
Thanks for sharing the details and screenshot.
If usage metrics is showing all zeros even though the report was accessed, you may try a couple of things. First, open the report directly from the workspace not from recent or shared link and then open View usage metrics again. Also check the date filter in the usage metrics report and change it to a wider range like last 30 days to see if any data appears. Sometimes creating a new usage metrics report from the report again can also help, as it regenerates the dataset. In addition, try accessing the report from another user account and then refresh the usage metrics report after some time to see if it starts capturing the activity.

Kindly refer to the below documentation links for better understanding:

Hope the above provided information help you resolve the issue, if you have any further concerns or queries, please feel free to reach out to us.

  • Hi jeanne ,

You may be accessing the wrong report-compare the report ID in the URL. If you are sure you're on the correct dataset, you can delete the dataset (see article link).

In the workspace go the settings of any Semantic Model. Scroll down to the Usage Metrics Report semantic model. Click on the model. In the browser url you will now see the GroupID and DatasetID.

Use the below Rest API to delete the semantic model

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/power-bi/datasets/delete-dataset-in-group

    Thanks,

    Sai Teja
