Microsoft EmployeeUnable to auto-refresh the dataset
Hi,
Hope you are doing well. These days, some of our dashboards met same issue that the auto-refresh setting of PBI dataset stopped suddenly without any change or notification. We have refreshed it manually, but just wondering any reason for this issue please? And any suggestion on this issue in case it happens in the future again please?

While that is true Greg_Deckler - and I thought of that - on the report it self it says "This report is no longer refreshing due to stagnation, but you are here, so we are starting it back up again."
Not those exact words, but that is the essence. You don't need to do anything other than open it. MS kicks it all back in gear for you.
The only time I've ever seen it stop refreshing is if credentials on the data sources change/expire and need to be fixed, but that cannot be the case here as the manual refreshes are working, and they would also fail if it was a credential issue.
What can cause this too - if a refresh fails 4 times in a row, it will disable it to conserve on resources. I've seen this happen when a database goes down for a few hours and the refreshes all fail for lack of a datasource. When the DB comes back up, you have to go into Scheduled Refresh and turn it back on, but it remembers all of the times you had previously selected.

Did you disable then re-enable the Scheduled Refresh setting and make sure there was at least one time to refresh chosen?

AGLIU123 To add to what edhans said (sorry edhans this is the second time today!) the reason that the auto-refresh stops is typically because nobody is looking at the report. You asked for a reason and that's the most likely reason. If nobody has looked at the report in like 30 days, Microsoft puts the ban hammer down on scheduled refresh to save resources in the Service.
