Tenant Migration Freezing period

Hi,

We are migrating Power BI reports/datasets from 1 tenant to other tenant..

In the freezing period (2 weeks), what things should be considered, i have written couple of points, can someone please add, clarify or correct it..

a. Users may not able to create reports/datasets..
b. Schedule of refresh may be halted to avoid data inconsistencies.
c. Adding/Removing users or changing permission may be restricted

Thanks,

Hi @YashikaAgrawal

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Thank you for your response. The solution provided by @rohit1991  is  accurate. In addition to the provided solution, please consider the following additional recommendations that may help address the issue more effectively:

1. Workspaces & Apps

  • Workspaces should not be modified during the freezing period.
  • Apps should not be republished until validation in the new tenant is complete.

2. Power BI Service Settings & Subscriptions

  • Check Tenant Settings: Review Power BI admin portal settings, including export permissions, sharing policies, and dataset retention settings.
  • Subscription-Based Reports: If users have email subscriptions for reports, these need to be reconfigured in the new tenant after migration.

3. Power Automate & External Integrations

  •  If reports are automated via Power Automate, the flows should be recreated or updated in the new tenant.
  •  Reconnect third-party tools that rely on the old Power BI tenant's dataset.

If my response has resolved your query, please mark it as the Accepted Solution to help others. Additionally, I would appreciate a 'Kudos' if you found my response helpful.

Thank you!

hI @YashikaAgrawal ,

During the 2-week freezing period, ensure the following:

1. Report & Dataset Restrictions

Users cannot create, edit, or publish new reports/datasets.
Existing reports remain accessible but should not be modified.

2. Data Refresh & Processing

Scheduled refreshes may be paused to avoid inconsistencies.
Live connections & DirectQuery sources should be validated post-migration.

3. User Access & Permissions

Adding/Removing users is restricted to maintain stability.
User roles should be reviewed before migration to ensure correct access.

4. Gateway & Data Source Considerations

Ensure Gateways are correctly configured in the new tenant.
Validate data source authentication post-migration.

5. Testing & Communication Plan

Conduct pre-migration testing with key reports.
Notify users well in advance to avoid disruptions.
