Hi there!
In my tenant, I require my data to remain compliant to data residency requirements. My Power BI tenant is in Canada, howver as I understand, Standalone Copilot is not available in datacenters in Canada, even though it is available to interact with datasets in my tenant (which will require further consent/settings to be updated).
My concern is - if a dataset is marked discoverable, and Standalone Copilot (from US/EU) is enabled, can the dataset be discovered through Copilot? Would leaving Standalone Copilot enabled expose any of the data in my tenant? Are others users able to interact with datasets in my tenant (whether they have access to them or not, and if they are discoverable as well as undiscoverable)?
Also, how does cost/pricing work? Does enabling the feature have additional costs? Same with licensing.
I just need to be sure about these cases before the rollout.
Thank you!

Hi @sba_ur,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
I would also take a moment to thank @Shahid12523 , @GilbertQ , @GeraldGEmerick for actively participating in the community forum and for the solutions you’ve been sharing in the community forum. Your contributions make a real difference.
To answer your points copilot will never show data to people who don’t already have access, so there is no risk of extra exposure even if a dataset is marked discoverable. Since your tenant is in Canada but Copilot works only from US/EU, it will need cross-region processing if you enable it. For cost, it needs Premium or Fabric capacity F2+/P1+ and charges are based on capacity usage, not per user.
If data residency is a strict requirement in your org, it is safer to keep it off until Copilot is available in Canadian region.

1.Data exposure: Copilot only shows data users already have permission to see. Discoverable doesn’t override security.
2.Data residency: Your tenant is in Canada, but Standalone Copilot runs in US/EU. You must enable cross-region processing in admin settings for it to work.
3.Licensing/cost: Needs Premium or Fabric capacity (F2+/P1+). Cost is capacity-based (token usage), not per user. Typical interactions cost a few cents each.
Enabling Standalone Copilot won’t expose data, but it will process outside Canada if you allow cross-
Hi @sba_ur
I would just like to confirm that there are costs associated using the copilot experience in power BR, where as mentioned above you have to purchase a standalone copilot experience which will have limitations in terms of how much capacity can be used for copilot.
@sba_ur Correct, it is only available in EU and US. If you have data residency requirements then you should turn it off as specified here: Standalone Copilot in Power BI will be turned on by default in September | Microsoft Power BI Blog |...
Also, this is a good resource: Standalone Copilot experience in Power BI (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
To the best of my knowledge there is no additional licensing or costs.
