I have two report :
- report A is quality data analysis of all workshops and has its own dataset
- report B is quality data analysis of only the workshops of one country and use report A dataset
Report A is published in workspace A
Report B is published in workspace B
One of my user has access to workspace B but not A
When she tries to read Report B, she receive a message saying she can't because she does not have viewing right of the report's dataset
The easy solution would be to give my user access to workspace A. But I can't (she cannot be allowed to see data from other countries, only her own)
Is there any way around it ?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Yes, build permissions will permit that user to build a local PBIX solution using Report A's dataset, which in your case will give that user access to all the data.
Your scenario requires more considerations based upon your complexity. I would explore implementing Row Level Security within Report A, where you grant permissions to users based on the countries they can see.
Ok, thanks for the explaination
I have a rough idea of what to do and will do some reading on https://docs.microsoft.com/ to understand how to do it
Thanks @tctrout for your feedback
Dataset from report A contains data from every countries
My user cannot be allowed (for legal reasons) to access data from countries other than her own, which is why I built a separate report in a separate workspace for her
If I grant her access to the dataset from report A, will she be able to access data from every counties ?
Yes, build permissions will permit that user to build a local PBIX solution using Report A's dataset, which in your case will give that user access to all the data.

Yes, instead of granting access into the workspace grant build permission to the dataset.
In your example above, grant user build permission on Report A's dataset.
