Sharing Power BI Workspace with external users

Our data developers are licensed with Power BI Premium and have a workspace created for one of our clients with dashboards of their sales data and we are needing to share this workspace with them so they can view the dashboards on their end but keeps running into issues where they get messages that requires them to have a Power BI Pro or Power BI Premium. Is there truly no way to share anything external if the external users don't have a license? It's crucial we successfully get this workspace shared out with our client so any informatoin would be well appreciated.

Hi @SMitch0505 ,

For you requirement, you can consider sharing it through publish to web. Although this way of sharing does not consider the user's PowerBI license, there are certain risks in data security.

Please check the license mode of the workspace, even if the guest user is joined to the workspace role, they cannot view the workspace content without the corresponding license.

Refer to :Distribute content to external guest users with Azure AD B2B - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Actually, looks like our issues still persists. We added our client with an Azure AD account and gave them access to our workbook in PowerBI but when they login and try to access our workspace they still get messages that they need to upgrade to PowerBI Pro to view content. Is there any other access we need to add so they can just view our dashboards within our workspace without requiring a license? Seems odd Microsoft would require this since Tableau is able to do this sharing seamlessly without requiring external users to have a license.

Hi @SMitch0505 ,

Refer this document, the guest user must have the proper licensing in place to view the content that you shared.

Purchases Power BI Premium capacity and assigns its BI portal content to this capacity. This allows guest users from partner organizations to access Contoso's Power BI app without any Power BI license.
