Shared dataset Import mode

If I have a workspace (premium ) on western region , and have a report and dataset ,

the dataset is shared ,

and I have another workspace (premium) on asia reigon , and this workspace , build a report connect to the shared dataset.

In this case, can use import mode and daily refresh ? If possible how to do that ?

Hi @globalmc ,

As far as I know, when you connect to a shared dataset using Desktop, a live connection to the dataset is created. You can change the connection mode to DirectQuery, see the documentation for details.

Create reports based on datasets from different workspaces

Using DirectQuery for Power BI datasets and Azure Analysis Services (preview)

But the shared dataset is not supported in import mode. After creating a report to upload to the Service, you can configure the credentials and set up scheduled refreshes.

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information or the expected result you expect. Let me know immediately, looking forward to your reply.
Best Regards,
Winniz

Hi @globalmc

When you connect to a dataset all the data still is in the actual dataset.

So based on your question if you want to use import mode, you would need to import the data into a new PBIX and then publish this to your asia region.

thanks. and can you show me how to do that ? Something like the following ?

1. Open power BI desktop

2. Get Data and choose the shared dataset

3. Build the report and publish

Is it something like in the above?

Hi @globalmc

so in the above case , the report is still connecting to the shared dataset in the western region ? or the dataset in asia region ? and is it schedule refresh (import mode)

is it correct?
