Securing PowerBI Data Sources for Sharepoint Access
Hey there,
We have a few Analysts that use Sharepoint as a source for a report they are building. They'd like to set this up to refresh on a regular basis. We'd rather not have the user embed their own credentials in the datasource and handing out a service account to all of the Analysts that would alter this workbook doesn't seem like a great idea either. Is there any way to create a data source put the credentials in once and then have it persist those credentials when the workbook is re-published? Or is there some other method that would be better to handle this?

Also I should point out that this is an on-prem environment. We use AD to authenticate. Thankya!

This is kind of generic how to use sharepoint as a source and set up a data refresh. This works fine for us and is not a problem. The problem we're running into is giving all the report developers access to the workbook and thus data sources allowing them to get into places in Sharepoint they may not be normally able to access. So far it seems that this is not possible in PowerBI which is a shame but I guess we'll have to work something else out.
