Scheduled refresh has been disabled

Hello,

 

I configured an ODBC driver on my PowerBI Desktop in order to get data from Cloudera Impala. I published the report on PowerBI service, It's working fine until I try to refresh the dataset. I get this error :

"Data source error: Scheduled refresh is disabled because at least one data source is missing credentials. To start the refresh again, go to this dataset's settings page and enter credentials for all data sources. Then reactivate scheduled refresh."

When I try to configure credential on the PowerBI service, it's greyed out...

 

I have another questions. I downloaded the ODBC Cloudera driver from Cloudera website. So the ODBC driver is on my Desktop, I understand that I can create a connection with my source on my Desktop. But how can I have the same connection if the driver is not imported on PowerBI service ?

    If you click Get Data > More... there appears to be a direct Impala connector, so you don't need to use ODBC.

    I think to use ODBC from the service you need to install a gateway on your desktop or some other server where the drivers are installed. https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/gateway/

      Hello CarlaTP,

       

      It doesn't work with the Impala driver, I get this message :

      « ODBC: ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][DriverSupport] (1170) Unexpected response received from server. Please ensure the server host and port specified for the connection are correct. »

       

      We work on Cloudera Platform, so Impala is on Cloudera. I think we need to use the Cloudera driver : https://docs.cloudera.com/documentation/other/connectors/impala-odbc/2-6-11.html

       

      So the solution, for you, is to use the gateway ?

        My database doesn't have its own connector so I'm forced to use ODBC. I'm using a gateway on one of my servers which is always on, and has the ODBC drivers installed, to connect to my database which is on the cloud somewhere. The gateway works on a desktop pc also, but I found the scheduled refreshes turned off every weekend because my pc gets turned off then.

         

        I'm not using Cloudera so I have no other advise, I'm sorry.

      The gateway is used when data are on-Premise. But in this case, it's cloud to cloud...

        Hi, Anonymous 

        If you are creating reports based on generic data interfaces (ODBC connector), you can try to download the gateway to refresh data on PowerBI Service.

         

        Please refer to this thread.

        REFRESHING ODBC DATASOURCE ON POWER BI SERVICE 

         

        To add the data source to the gateway:

        Go to Gateway Management on Power BI Service

        • Click Add Data source -> Select ODBC for data source type
        • Add the same connection string and Authentication method on Power BI Desktop
        • Click Apply
