Scheduled Refresh Failure

Hi,

I just want to ask if you've experienced this kind of error message and how did you troubleshoot it? Thank you.

Failure details: The last refresh attempt failed because of an internal service error. This is usually a transient issue. If you try again later and still see this message, contact support.

Hi @keitoledo

Please try these troubleshooting steps and and let us know if it works:

  1. Configure a workspace identity for the Power BI workspace:
    • Go to the workspace settings in the Power BI service.
    • Navigate to the "Workspace Identity" section.
    • Create and enable a workspace identity if one does not exist.
  2. Ensure the model owner has Contributor or higher access to the workspace:
    • Verify the access permissions of the user who owns the dataset/model.
    • Grant Contributor or higher role in the workspace if needed.
  3. Alternatively, change the data connection authentication method:
    • Edit credentials for the data source in the dataset settings.
    • Use a different authentication method instead of workspace identity if appropriate.
  4. After making these changes, republish the dataset if required and trigger the refresh again.

Hey @keitoledo  ,

I faced the same issue with one of my clinets, where the dataset refresh was failing 2-4 times a week with this error. The root cause is related to Workspace Identity authentication. The Error occurs beacuse either the workspace does not have a workspace identity configured, or the model owner lacks Contributor (or Higher) permissions to use it.

Solution

  • Configure a worksapce identity for the workspace.
  • Ensure the dataset/model owner has Contributor or higher access to the workspace.
  • Alternatively, switch to a different aiuthentication method (like OAuth or stored credentials) if workspace identity is not an option.

After implementing this, the refreshes became stable.

If it solved your issue, feel free to mark it as the solution so others can benefit too.

Thanks for being part of the community.
