Scheduled Refresh Fails When Gateway Machine Is Turned Off or in Sleep Mode
Hi Community,
I am using an ODBC connection to connect to a MySQL database as my data source in Power BI. I’ve created a report and published it to the Power BI Service.
To enable scheduled refresh, I installed the On-premises data gateway on my local laptop and mapped it successfully to the data source. The scheduled refresh works fine as long as my laptop is powered on and active.
However, the issue I'm facing is:
When my laptop (where the gateway is installed) is turned off or goes into sleep mode, the scheduled refresh fails.
This affects the data freshness of my reports, and I would like the report to always show the latest data from the database, even if my laptop is not available.
Additional Info:
I used an ODBC connection because the MySQL connectors (all versions I tried) didn’t work properly with my setup, so ODBC was the only option that worked.
How can I overcome this issue?
Is there a way to make the refresh work even when my laptop is off? What’s the best way to keep the data refresh running reliably?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Instead of using a personal gateway, you have to use a standard gateway and deploying it on a VM
The personnal gateway is more used with custom dev in Python or R than Database

Run the on prem gatway on a cloud VM or a local server so it is always on. Depending on where your database is, you could also use a VNET gateway, but this requires premium
