Which type of gateway does the DBA install for you, on-premises gateway or personal gateway?
If the DBA installs on-premises gateway , he should go to the administrator’s tab of the registered gateway to add you as additional admin, then you will be able to see gateway in "Manage gateway", and you are able to add all data sources within the gateway.

It would appear that first off your Personal gateway is not connecting to the Power BI Service.
Can you confirm that you have got the latest version installed?
And then check to see if you can access app.powerbi.com from the PC/Server where the Personal Gateway is installed?
