Hi all,
I would like to know how to set up automatic daily report updates in Power BI Services using Excel as the data source. I need to ensure that the updates are error-free. Please share your ideas and experience.
Thank you.
It depends on where the Excel file is. If it is in SharePoint (best place most of the time) then just set the data credentials as shown below. (Mine is grayed out because the image I used has no cloud resources)
If it is on your local drive or a networked drive, you will have to set up an on prem gateway to access that data. You can find out more here, but IMHO this is massive overkill for an Excel file. Guidance for deploying a data gateway for the Power BI service - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Again, SharePoint is best. If it is OneDrive for Busiiness, that is SharePoint. Just get the URL for the file from ODfB on the web. It will look something like this:
https://yourcompany-my.sharepoint.com/personal/fname_lastname_yourcompany_com/
You just have to connect to that URL from within Power BI as a Sharepoint folder connector.
Otherwise, we need a lot more info, because Excel in and of it self isn't super important to scheduling refreshes. It is where the file is located that is critical.
