Save to xlsx with formatting
I’ve been a BusinessObjects developer for 20 years, my company are now moving to Power BI. They have built visual reports with conditional formatting in Power BI. Is it correct these can’t be saved as is to xlsx? When I try to do that it comes up as an option for a pivot table. Is is possible to do something with Power Automate? Normally we schedule hundreds of these reports automatically with BO daily. I know you can save to XLS with the paginated reports so they are looking into that but they need xlsx can’t be csv/ppt/pdf etc. Thanks
Hi. I would say no. Currently, exporting reports with formatting settings beyond a table structure is not supported.
The alternative is to export ppt or pdf. However, I have seen this video that is doing it with a custom visual from profitbase company: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45PP28bb3h4&t=19sI don't think power automate will solve it, but the only thing I'm thinking is that you have a table already created at sharepoint with formatting. Create a flow with powerautomate that extract your powerbi data and put it in the example excel table. Maybe that way you can do something similar.

Hi EllieEv,
Take a look at paginated reports, you can do more advnced formatting and exporting of them, and they should export the styles of tables nicely.

Power BI does not allow the export of completely formatted visual reports (including conditional formatting and layouts) as an excel file (.xlsx). When an export is made, it is only the underlying data, typically in a pivot-style table, and not the visual design. Power Automate has the potential to automate the export of Power BI data to Excel, but it will not keep formatting and visuals. The solution is to use Power BI Paginated Reports which allows full formatting and export to native .xlsx file plus scheduling in case your team required properly formatted Excel reports as in BusinessObjects.
