Request Quota reached
Hello,
I get this error message when I try to launch a data update via the Powerbi service.
With Powerbi Desktop there's no problem updating the report, but it's impossible with the service.

Hi OlivierP59 ,
Thank you for confirming the root cause.
It is clear that the error was due to API request limitations, as indicated by the “request quota reached” message in Power BI Service.
To help prevent this issue in the future, please consider the following actions:
- Optimize Power Query steps to minimize API calls.
- Schedule refreshes during off-peak hours.
- Coordinate with your data source administrator regarding potential quota increases or alternative endpoints.

Hi OlivierP59
Is this running in a fabric enabled workspace?
Can you view the link below to see if you have run out of your quota. Microsoft Fabric quotas - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

No, I don't use fabric to update or publish reports in my Workspace.

The error request quota reached means your data source (likely an API or cloud service) has hit its usage limit. Power BI Desktop works because it uses your credentials, while the Service uses different authentication and is subject to stricter quotas.
- Reduce data load or API calls in Power Query.
- Avoid expanding records that trigger many requests.
- Stagger refresh schedules.
- Check with your data source admin to increase quota if possible.

Hi OlivierP59 ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.
As mentioned correctly by BhavinVyas3003 , the error message "request quota reached" typically originates from the data source itself (such as an API or external service) rather than from Power BI or the Power BI Service. While refreshes work in Power BI Desktop under your user context, the Service uses different credentials and may hit stricter request limits or quotas imposed by the source system.
To resolve this, we recommend, reviewing your Power Query logic to reduce the number of API calls (e.g., avoid unnecessary record expansions or nested queries).
Staggering refresh schedules to avoid concurrent request peaks and consulting your data source admin or provider to verify quota settings or request an increase if applicable.
Hope this helps. Please reach out for further assistance.
Thank you.

There was a restriction on the API regarding the frequency and number of requests. thanks
