Published report to SharePoint: how to filter data per user

Hello all,

Please can I ask for some advice?

I have created a report which has been published to SharePoint. This report is used by the Board, containing company-wide information (consisting of 20 business sites).

I now need to share this report so that the Manager of each site can view it, but filtered so that it only shows data for their particular site, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this.

For example:

Report A:

is seen by senior members of the company, and includes a tab consisting of a visualisation matrix table showing total values across all sites, and another tab with charts showing data per site (therefore 20 charts showing on one tab).

This has been posted to a SharePoint page.

Report A1:

The same as report A but filtered to show only data associated with site 1, viewed by the Manager of site 1 only.

Report A2:

The same as report A but filtered to show only data associated with site 2, viwed by the Manager of site 2 only. And so on.

What is the most efficient way of achieving this?

a) Do I need to make an additional 20 pages on Sharepoint, specific to each site, and

b) Can I repeatedly use Report A but filtered in someway per SharePoint page or do I need to recreate Report A in Power Bi Desktop 20 times, filtered per site at this stage?

I'd be very grateful if anyone can share their knowledge on how best to achive this.

Many thanks in advance πŸ™‚

  • If the data is not confidential and you trust your users, add filters to the filter pane, allow personalization, and teach your users how to use both.

If the data is confidential and/or you want to make the users' life miserable, use RLS (Row Level Security).
