PowerBI Premium Gen 2 Prequisites
Hello Experts,
I am looking into PBI Premium Gen2 migration and Msft has mentioned few prequisites. But it doesnt explain me the exact impact what if we dont have any of the below required version on PBI service /desktop when we try to connect to data ?
Thank You,

Premium Gen2 prerequisites
Power BI Premium Gen2 and Embedded Gen2 support open-platform connectivity from Microsoft and third-party client applications and tools by using XMLA endpoints.
The article Dataset connectivity with the XMLA endpoint lists the minimum requirements for Power BI Premium, Premium Per User (PPU) and Embedded connectivity. In addition to these requirements, for dataset connectivity in Premium Gen2, you need to have the following:
Microsoft Excel - Version 16.0.13612.10000 or higher
PowerShell cmdlets - Version 21.1.18256 or higher
Server Profiler - Version 18.9 or higher
SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) - Version 18.9 or higher
Visual Studio with Analysis Services projects (SSDT) - Version 2.9.16 or higher
You also need to use the following client libraries when working with Gen2 capacities:
ADOMD - Version 19.12.7.0 or higher
AMO - Version 19.12.7.0 or higher
MSOLAP - Version 15.1.65.22 or higher

Those are the min versions needed to leverage the XMLA endpoint in that particular tool. Use of any or all of those is not required, but you will likely want to leverage some.

ppm1 ,
Thanks for reply. Am sure i understood that these are minimum requirements. my question was more around what if Excel or SSMS versions dont fall into mimum requirement. What issues i may face? There has to be some reason why they are mentioned as "prerequisites". if you dont suffice them what will happen - will you be able to still connect to your data sitting in Azure Synapse table ? will you be able to refresh your data as before ? any performance issues ?
more digging in tells me that updated SSMS version would give me- Read-write access for scripting metadata.
example: PBI report with powerpoint integration requires specific O365 version. i dont have that version hence i am not able to integrate my PBI report in powerpoint.
Thanks

For each tool, if you don't have at least the version specified, you won't be able to use that tool with XMLA. It won't affect the use of any of the other tools or creation/use of the Premium capacity.
