Power Platform no such host

Hi There,

I've published an on-premise ssas db through Power BI desktop. To do this I opened Power BI Desktop on the server where the DB is hosted, so I connected to a local server.

When I log in I can access this published dataset, it connects successfully using the on premise gateway.

However, when I try to access the published dataset through Power BI desktop on another computer using the Power Platform and Power BI Datasets it fails to connect saying "No such host is known."

I think the issue is simply that I published the dataset from the server where the db is hosted, and Power BI Online manages the connection using the Gateway, but accessing the dataset using the desktop version doesn't use the gateway?

Can anyone advise if there's a workaround for this, or how I should go about doing this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Hi there

Have you created a data source connection in the Manage Gateways on the Power BI Service?

This will allow your dataset to connect to the SSAS DB which is sitting On-Prem?

      Hi Gilbert,

Thanks for helping, yes I have. This allows me to connect to the db in question when I log in to Power BI online. But when I use the desktop version it fails as described. Or am I missing something?
