Power Bi Gateway switched to offline mode in certain days in server

I have configured Power BI gateway in one of our windows server through organization account. we have premium license.

We have serveral reports which is created in different DSN and mapped with one common gateway connection.

The problem is, certain period of time (within 10 days) the power bi gateways goes offline without any intimation in server.

Because of this, whatever has configuring the reports in server using this gateway which is refreshing got failed.

The Gateway configured using our organization account and account will expire every 45 or 60 days.

But, my question is, the gateway goes offline within 15 to 20 days.

So everytime we have to login again and recreate the gateway using the Key.

Why the problem coming like this and how we have to solve this type of problem...?????

Configuring server is always online mode only.

Hi @saivina2920 ,

First, make sure you do not install the gateway on a computer (such as a laptop) that may be turned off, asleep, or disconnected from the internet. The gateway can't run under any of those circumstances. And some of the following other scenarios have to be considered.

Please upgrade the gateway to the latest version. The account for logging into Power BI Service is the same as the account for the gateway and is the gateway Administrator.

on premises gateway offline for Users

On-premise data gateway (personal mode) is going to offline mode a few times a day

It turned out that a user that had to be logged in to service, kept dropping off for different reasons-->scheduled refresh failed. The current direction to solve it is to to install on-premise GTW (personal mode) on a different stand-alone server with a proper configuration ( sorry, I'm not an infrastructure person:-), can't give more details). After that GTW will migrate to a new computer, dedicated only to him. Hope it will solve the issue.

In addition, you can set up a Logic App to monitor your gateway as a workaround. Please find the details in the following link.

Monitor your On-premises data gateway with Azure and Power BI

  1. Logic App – part 1 – Get the gateway status
  2. Create a Power BI Streaming Dataset
  3. Logic App – part 2 – Push the data to Power BI
  4. Save the data to Log Analytics (optional)

Thanks and your points are valuable.

We installed the gateway on the server. (This is always online there is no idle and switched off).

We used different login on this server and configured different application.

For example,

User1 has logging in server, and he configured which is Banking Dashboard using gateway with different

  DSN's.

User2 has logging in server, and he configured which is Transport Report using gateway with different

  DSN's.

User3 has logged in server, and he configured which is Employee Report using gateway with different

  DSN's.

like that the other users has logging in and configured their own application using this gateway with different DSN's.

How we could handle the above case..?
