Power BI Service - Difference between Gateway (supported) vs Gateway (required)
Hello everyone,
This article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/power-bi-data-sources#data-sources-m-o shows the data sources that Power BI supports for datasets, including information about DirectQuery and the on-premises data gateway. My question is what is the difference between Gateway (supported) vs Gateway (required)? i just don't get it. Thank you for your answers in advance.

Gateway Supported: In Power BI, we know that cloud sources do not require any gateway for refreshing the data. But few of the cloud sources do support gateway. In scenarios where you want to allow cloud data sources to refresh through the gateway, this doc will help you understand which cloud source supports and which source doesn't.
Gateway Required: To refresh on-premises source data, you require a gateway.
