Hi,
we're looking forward to use Power BI Project, even with PBIR extension. Actually we're using just Power BI Projects with TMDL, which in my opinion is great.
I thought that the Power BI Project would be in GA (not in public preview) at the beginning of the year, but I still see it in public preview.
Do you have any idea when it'll go in GA?
Regards
Daniele Tiles

Hi. You can check the release plans for power bi in here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/release-plan/powerbi
Even though it doesn't say something specific about the save as project, I would pay attention to microsoft build and fabconf april/may this year. That's one of the moments that they usually launch many features in preview or GA.
I hope that helps,
Happy to help!
Thank you, @ibarrau , for your response.

I've been asking for a couple years as well:
https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Desktop/Developer-Mode-Timeline-before-GA-2025/m-p/4418478
I wouldn't get your hopes up. There are some types of features that take many years. Like composite modeling (ie. direct query to datasets). That took forever.
This PBI SaaS did not target always audience in I.T., nor did it target professional developers. Instead it targeted self-service users (aka "citizen developers"). So enterprise requirements like source control have been unavailable for the past decade, despite the many requests for them.
What I would recommend is to add both the pbix and the pbip files into your source control as a CYA. That way you can use the pbip files for tracking diffs between versions, and use the pbix as your primary artifact for making changes. This is a good compromise, and will cover you in the chance that Microsoft switches directions, and goes back to thinking that source control is unnecessary for users of this product.

This has been marked as a solution, but actually it isn't (and in the roadmap there is no mention of Power BI Project).
Marking posts as solved is useless if they aren't really solved.
Share feedback directly with Fabric product managers, participate in targeted research studies and influence the Fabric roadmap.
