Power BI Online Service Data Refresh Time Out Error

Hi,

I have multiple datasets that refreshed correctly today but one that keeps getting a time out error.  I've also tried to re-publish using the .PBIX file but that isn't working either.  Today is the first time with this dataset I'm having issues as you can see it normally refreshed during the schedule refresh very quickly.  Does anyone know what the issue is and how to resolve?  I've tried to submit a support ticket but there seems to be an issue with that as it says I'm not logged in as Pro user.

Hi @aj1973

Where would the admin fix in the dataset or look?  I also published the same dataset to another workspace and it published and refreshed fine so I'm not sure why this one specific one is not refreshing.

Hi @NimaiAhluwalia

I'm do not need a gateway as all my datasets are on the cloud.  I'll try refreshing again to see but I'm not sure why this one is having issues as all my others are refreshing very quickly that are even larger datasets.

Thanks,

Chris

Hello @chudson

As I said before, check the load of the database at the time of making the refresh, because the error shows that the issue is with the size and that is due to an excess of tables and columns.

The other best suggestion I can provide is not to refresh the tables which are not required to be and also reduce the columns or the tables that are not required in the dataset

Hi @NimaiAhluwalia & All,

I was working with the Microsoft support team and they let me know they think the Power BI service was being effected by some world wide Azure Active Directory outages occuring over the last few days.  It should be resolved but I will be monitoring the next few days.

Like I show above, this refresh normally takes 2-10 minutes in the serivce over the last few years and all of sudden it started taking over 2 hours and timing out without any data or modeling changes on our end.

Thanks,

Chris

Hello @chudson

We generally get this type of time out error when we have passed the maximum limit of the refresh or the source is taking to much time to respond because it has a load in the backend form other services also for the retrieval so try triggering the refresh at a time when the source is free.

If the data source is on-premise try configuring the gateway again it helps most of the times.

Hi @chudson

You have a capacity problem with the dataset, Check with your administrator for a Fix.
