Power BI Deployment Pipelines w/ Shared Datasets

Good afternoon,

We have a shared datset across multiple workspaces in a Deployment Pipeline. These Workspaces are in a Premium Capacity. For this central dataset, we have a Test and a Production Environment. The dataset is used / shared across multiple workspaces.

I have an end user, who has Build and Read Permissions to both the Test and Production Version of this Dataset - set in the Direct Access (Settings on the Dataset).

This user does not have access to the workspace that the Dataset lives in, but does have direct access to the Dataset itself to build reports on it. He is able to build reports on the Test and Production versions of the dataset and also has built and loaded reports to the service on this shared dataset.

The end user has Member access to the Test and Production Workspaces for the report he is building in the Power BI Service and is an Administrator on the Deployment Pipeline for this Workspace.

When he tries to deploy his content from Test to Prod for the workspace he is a Member of, he receives this error:

Has anyone run into this issue when trying to deploy reports across environments, when the source is a shared dataset? Again, the user is a member of the Test and Production Workspaces for his reports and has build and read access on the Central Dataset. I have checked his access on the Test and Production version of the dataset and he has access to both.

Based on Microsoft's Documentation, he only needs to be a Member of the Workspaces for the Deployment Pipelines to deploy across environments.

Thanks!

Jake

Hi, @Anonymous

According to your error message, when you deploy the pipeline, you are prompted that you do not have permission to the relevant dataset. And your workspaces are all in Premium capacity.

After testing, shared datasets can deploy pipelines. You can check the following points:

(1) In Amin Portal, make sure "Block republish and disable package refresh" is turned off.

 (2) Check that the end user has the correct permissions for all datasets to be deployed.

(3) Make sure that the shared dataset is also in the Premium capacity.

You can refer to the following documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/deployment-pipelines-process#workspace-member ; https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/deployment-pipelines-troubleshooting

If the above methods can't help you solve the problem, you can click "See details" to expand the detailed error code and send it to us, so that we can better help you solve the problem.
