Parameter Management with GIT integration

Hello,

with the introduction of Workspace integration with GIT, I was wondering how to manage dataset parameters automatic updates similar to deployment rules on deployment pipeline.

my idea is to link Dev and Test work spaces to their respective branches and when I merge commits into these branches, I want to update the semantic layer parameters with respective data source details automatically. Is it possible? 

also, does reports bind to datasets in respective workspaces when merging happens through GIT?
