Optimizing Our Current PowerBI Datasets

Hello all,

My organization currently has put together

  • 9 separate workspaces
  • 50+ PowerBI reports across those 9 workspaces, some of which are duplicates
  • These 50 reports all pull data from an ODBC connection (Netezza) to one of our company dataset

When I go to refresh the 50 files across all 9 workspaces, I inevitably have to refresh the duplicate files 1 at a time, instead of being able to refresh from a central point.

It would be great to be able to manage a central dataset that holds all measures and can be refreshed just once - I am wondering the best way to go about this given our current status-quo?

hey,

1) create a power bi desktop with all the data, measures. model etc you need and upload it with the report page in blank,

2) publish that report and it will work as a main dataset, you can create as many new power bi desktop files and publish them as you want using that main file as dataset in power service, this new files willl house the report itself only, and you can use that same dataset across diferente workspace etc, (just need to put the right dataset permits in each workspace).

like that when you refresh that main dataset all reports will be refresed, depending on your licence, capacity, model, performance etc, you may have one or more dataset to use as fit.

if this solved your question give some kudos and mark as solution for others to find it more easy, refer also to thse document about these topic:
